Forest Work Instructors' Training Programme

with Special Emphasis on Model Forests and Cross-boarder Co-operation

 

  

Background

Model forests are already established or in the process of establishment in Canada, China, Russia and U.S.A. Establishment of taiga model forest in Lammi Municipality Iso-Evo Village in Southern Finland is also in the process.

The nearest model forest is Taiga Model Forest in the training forests of Petrozavodsk State University in Matrosy Village, Prjaza District, Republic of Karelia, Russian Federation. Häme Polytechnic Forestry Training Programme has been assisting in establishing the Taiga Model Forest.

Completion of the forestry operations according to the model forest requirements will be assisted by means of directing manual forest work instructors' training to the forest workers of Matrosy village. At the same time Finnish forest workers and officials are given the know-how of model forests and cross-boarder co-operation with Karelian institutions.

 

Target Groups

Target groups are forest workers living in Matrosy Village and from the Finnish side forest workers and officials operating in different organisations in the forest areas in or bordering to Iso-Evo Village.

Six trainees from both countries will participate training.

 

Objectives

The main objective in training of the Russian trainees is to provide participants with knowledge and skills to instruct manual forest work according to the requirements of Taiga Model Forest.

The main objective in training of the Finnish trainees, forest workers and officials is to provide participants with knowledge and skills to instruct manual forest work needed in model forests both in Finland and in Karelia.

Venues

Theory and demonstrations will be trained both in Evo and Matrosy. Practical training sessions and exercises will take place in the Taiga Model Forest Area in Matrosy.

 

Duration

For Russian participants training programme takes nine months. Finnish participants will join the training in the beginning of January 1999. Finnish trainees are expected previous vocational or college degree. Training programme will be concluded in the end of April 1999.

 

Trainers

Trainers are from Evo Forestry Training Programme of Häme Polytechic and Häme Vocational Institute. An external specialist of training pedagogy will conduct forest instructor's pedagogy sessions.
