On the territory of Demonstration Forest "Matrosy" Petrozavodsk State University is developed international project "Taiga - modal forest. One of the main problem which must be solved by the Project is forming ecological sustainability. Ecological sustainability together with social and economic systems carrying out complex of forestry measures forming sustainable forestry. The complexity of this task is increase by relative monotonous of composition species and distribution of age classes, if look at the area from position of inventory which was conducted in 1993 year. This area was corresponded with industrial orientation in past.

The sustainability is the most important attribute of any living association. Sustainability is the state of balance when necessity of all side's interests satisfaction involving in process appears.

What to examine as ecological sustainability? The number of opinions are existing.

Forest stands varied by level of biological diversity and sustainability with dependence of latitude situation, stage of developing and forestry management.

All existing ecological systems are sustainable. If ecosystem is existing it is sustainable.

Ecological system is more sustainable then higher level of biological diversity; from genetics level to the diversity of living association.

Sustainable those systems that include flexible species: species-pioneers, capable to adapt external influences.

Sustainable ecosystems which include rare key biotops and plants.

However last item is refuted by following position.

Growth of rare and disappearing species show that ecosystem is unsustainable. We also agree with this position. For example, spruce stands near streams have high biological diversity but it's characterized by low sustainability toward external influences (cutting, forest fires).

Working with problem of creation of local area ecological sustainability Demonstration Forest "Matrosy" Petrozavodsk State University must be decided following tasks:

• to define the conceptual tools;
• to elaborate the criteria system for description of ecosystem sustainability;
• to explain the rule of biodiversity and human in ecological sustainability;
• what is the level of detailed elaboration of natural objects must be during inventory with the aim of planing forestry management for creation ecosystem sustainability.
